True Love

I don't think that the feeling that is shared between Catherine and Edgar is true love. I think true love is between   two people that love each other for who they are, not only how they look and definitely not for how they act in front of each other. Catherine's a good example of that because a lot of the times in front of Edgar she acts all ladylike and polite, but when she is with Heathcliff, she acts like her true self, an adventurous young woman. This is why I think Catherine and Edgar don't really love each other, possibly because they don't know how to differentiate their feelings of infatuation and love.

  1. I agree with you Soumya. The book itself stated that Although Catherine was in love with Heathcliff she married Edgar to move up in her social class. This is not what it means to be in love, truly.

  2. Yes this is very true. If you're in love with someone, you sould be able to act however you please and the person you love should be able to accept that. On the contrary, Edgar is only used to Catherine's poised, polished self. When he sees her acting out with Nelly around, he rushes out of the house but returns, noticing Catherine's beauty. I think that's really stupid! If he can't accept her quirks and mannerisms, he shouldn't be drawn to her solely for her looks (or anything else for that matter).
