The Meaning on the Surface

The first chapter of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte reveals the meaning of the title. The word "wuthering" in context of the storyline is a word used by the locals to describe the ferocious winds that blow on the moors during storms. One of the first characters introduced, Heathcliff, lives in a manor called Wuthering Heights. This foreshadowing indicates that Heathcliff will most likely be in dominant character in the story as long as his manor being an important setting or symbol.
