Present Times Already?

I find it really weird that Nelly's narrative has already caught up with the recent events, by chapter 16. The whole story felt that it happened such a long time ago, because so much happened, and it was surprising that they are talking about the current widowed Catherine and her love story.

  1. Yes I am in complete agreement! I thought it was so strange when Nelly was continuing her story and all of a sudden she tells Lockwood that what she was telling him was only last year. I thought her stories seemed to take place in a completely different time when all the characters were much younger. This suddenly makes me somewhat fearful of Heathcliff because if he was doing crazy, heartless things a year ago, he must still be like that. I could tell from the beginning of the book that he's kind of moody and dark but I thought he's just depressed about something and thus, angry. However, I think his love for Catherine has actually turned him into some sort of a monster who does things to hurt perfectly innocent people just because of his frustration with how things went with his love, Catherine.
